What in the World are Collagen Peptides?! #STAYVITAL
I recently discovered Vital Proteins from a fellow mom blogger raving about her results since using the Collagen Peptides, so I decided to check them out myself! After doing a little research, this was something I definitely wanted to try. I feel like my body has not been the same since having my twins. I was pretty much on bed rest for the last trimester of my pregnancy, and my muscles definitely took a hit. My joints ache and crack every time I walk up and down my stairs. My skin has been extremely dry, compared to when I used to have really oily skin! My energy levels have also been kaput. I’m sure it has a lot to do with going from one to three kids overnight, but something has to give, right?! So what is Collagen exactly? Collagen is the main structural protein found in skin and other connective tissues, widely used in purified form for cosmetic surgical treatments.* Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is a key constituent of all connective tissues. Collagen provides the infrastructure of the musculoskeletal system, essential for mobility.* So basically Collagen is the “glue” that binds your cells and tissues together, and as we age our bodies naturally produce less and less. Collagen peptides are a cold-soluble, easily digestible and highly bioactive form of collagen.*
How can it improve your bone, joint, and muscle health?
As Collagen production decreases in our bodies, our bone joints become stiff, causing pain and inflammation. Collagen is like the lubrication to grease up those “rusty” joints. More collagen begins to increase the ease of movement in those joints. Um yes, sign me up! Collagen also plays an important role in the production of proteins that I’m looking for to boost my metabolism and energy. These proteins are crucial in maintaining muscle mass, especially for someone like me who doesn’t have the best diet (yet!). If you lack protein in your diet, your body will take what it needs from your muscle mass. I know, I know, you’re never supposed to skip breakfast, but with three hungry and busy boys...it happens. But, I never miss my morning cup of coffee!! So I add a couple of scoops of my Collagen Peptides to my cup of coffee, and now I’ve had at least 18g of protein and 20g of collagen.
How can Collagen improve the health of your hair, skin, and nails?
Like I said, our natural Collagen production in our bodies decline as we age. Noticing those new wrinkles, lack of elasticity, and dryer skin? Collagen supplements help boost natural production and renewal of skin cells, promoting firmer and smoother skin. I can already attest to this. I noticed my skin was starting to get extremely dry, no wrinkles yet (fingers crossed), but just not as vibrant and smooth. Since adding Vital Protein’s Collagen Peptides to my morning coffee I have noticed an amazing difference in my face already! My hair and nails already grow like crazy, so this is a bonus! I did the big mom hair chop a few months back, I miss my long hair already and I’m looking forward to these benefits.
Ok, so there are a million places you can get Collagen supplements from. How do you know which one to choose?
Well, I love Vital Proteins Unflavored Collagen Peptides because it’s so versatile. You can literally add it to anything. It really doesn’t have a flavor at all. You know those other unflavored protein powders and powdered supplements still have “that taste” despite it being unflavored, well this does not. You can add it to your smoothies, soups, sauces, probably even your mashed potatoes and ice cream if you wanted to (click here to check out some recipes and a variety of uses). Vital Proteins has an array of collagen and other health and beauty-boosting supplements. They also offer pescatarian and vegetarian options, and their collagen is ethically sourced! Stay tuned for my Matcha and Dark Chocolate & Blackberry Collagen Peptides review. I’m already loving my matcha, and I can’t wait to share these with you too.
As far as collagen is concerned, I’ve just scratched the surface as far as ways your body can benefit from collagen supplementing. I’ve included some links below you can check out to find more information. In the meantime, I hope you found this information helpful, and be sure to like and comment if you have any questions for me. Thanks!
